DAR ES SALAAM Tanzania, Capital Markets in Africa — It is all greener at the Tanzania Dar Es Salaam Stock Exchange equity markets trading floor as all indices and market capitalization closed higher. The equity market capitalization gained TZS 115.1 billion (about US$53.5 million) to end at TZS 21,147 billion relative to a market capitalization of TZS 21,032 billion recorded at the previous trading session.
The Dar Es Salaam Stock Exchange All Share index (DSEI) advanced by 13.23 points or 0.55 percent to end at 2,414.31 points. Tanzanian domestic Share Index rose by 0.27 percent or 12.54 points to end at 4,603.04 points.
From the sector viewpoint, the Banks, Finance & Investment sector index jumped by 0.97 percent or 30.09 points to close at 3,145.89 points. Industrial & Allied sector index increased by 0.04 percent or 2.62 points at 6,109.75 points and Commercial services sector index remained unchanged to end at 3,932.32.
Today, the Dar Es Salaam Stock Exchange recorded a total turnover of TZS 14,832.90 million from 1,035,615 shares traded in 61 deals compared to the previous session which recorded a turnover of TZS 8,996.66 million from 681,694 shares traded in 66 deals. CRDB traded 29,547 shares traded in 26 deals and DCB Commercial Bank exchanged 3,120 shares in 1 deal. Tanzania Breweries Limited recorded at 9720,588 shares in 18 deals. Tanzania Cigarette Company traded 430 shares in 2 deals. SWALA Gases Limited registered 23,790 shares in 3 deals. National Microfinance Bank registered 2,660 shares in 3 deals.
On the market strength/breath perspectives, the markets breath ended in positive today, with seven gainer and three losers. East Africa Breweries Limited closed at TZS 5,740 after adding 4.17 percent and Acacia Mining Limited grew by 1.46 percent to settle at TZS 6,960. Also, Jubilee Holdings Limited gained 0.93 percent to settle at TZS 8,720 and National Microfinance Bank soared by 0.71 percent to end at TZS 2,830. Other gainers were Tanzania Breweries Limited (+0.07 percent at TZS 15,200), DCB Commercial Bank (+0.88 percent at TZS 575) and CRDB Tanzania (+1.33 percent at TZS 380).
On the losers’ side, Kenya Airways Limited traded at TZS 110 after dropping 8.33 percent, Nation Media Group dipped by 1.02 percent to close at TZS 2,910 and Kenya Commercial Bank closed at TZS 890 after falling by 4.30 percent.
